LA Clippers Executive Consultant

Combine a deadly jump shot, tenacious defense, obsessive perfectionism, unabashed confidence, and an uncompromising will to win, and you’ve got Jerry West, one of the greatest guards in NBA history. Nicknamed “Mr. Clutch”, West became synonymous with brilliant basketball. He was the 3rd player in league history to reach 25,000 points. He was an All-Star every year of his 14-year playing career and led the Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA Finals nine times. He left the game holding records for career postseason scoring and the highest average in a playoff series.

Following his playing career, West became the Laker’s head coach for three seasons and was named General Manager in 1982, helping to build the Lakers’ dynasty of the 1980s. He was also at the forefront of rebuilding the Lakers into championship form by adding Shaquile O’Neal and trading for Kobe Bryant. After being employed by the Lakers for over 40 years, West retired but soon became the President of Basketball Operations of the Memphis Grizzlies.

In 2011, West joined the Golden State Warriors as an executive board member, and in 2015, the Warriors won their first NBA Championship in 40 years; the championship was the seventh earned by West while serving as a team executive. He announced in June that he would work under the Los Angeles Clippers as a consultant. West earned two NBA Executive of the Year awards in 1995 and 2004. One of the highlights of his career was when he led Team USA to a gold medal at the 1960 Rome Olympic Games. West was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980.
